SVU Christmas Bazaar
Each November, the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences (Washington D.C.) chapter organizes a Christmas Bazar that features performances, among others, by children from Slavic American Sokol. In addition to the performances, this event offers holiday gifts (Czech books, art, collectibles, costume jewelry). Guests can also enjoy traditional Czech dishes and pastries, as well as Christmas cookies and Bohemian specialty sausages.
St. Nicholas Party
In early December, SAS members and friends celebrate the traditional Czech holiday, St. Nicholas Day. It is a great opportunity for the children to perform Czech and Slovak Christmas carols for St. Nicholas, the patron saint of children, and receive small gifts from St. Nicholas in return for their performance. This event usually marks the beginning of the Advent season and is enjoyed by children and parents alike.
End of Year Picnic
At the beginning of June, Slavic American Sokol organizes a potluck picnic to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of the summer holidays. Children receive their report cards, perform for the parents, and have fun playing games and winning prizes.
